It was hot, muggy hot, as I pulled out into traffic heading to El Paso still and hour away. I was going to pass right thru but needed gas. There is something scary about El Paso . . .Can't put my finger on it, but scary. I gassed up and never heard a word of English the whole time. But being fluent in Spanish, as I am, I got along fine at the stop. Then started to journey through hell. . .
I cant tell you how the hours passed getting a blast of hot, damp air blowing on you, but not as fun as I anticipated, specially when it started sprinkling off and on for a couple of hours. But being from Vegas, I welcome the rain, but the steam it created was brutal!
The drive to El Paso and all the cattle pens. And "oww, oww, that smell"
Now there is a Welcome Marker! They do everything BIG in Texas
There is the one you recognize
But you gotta love THIS!!!!
But the view out each side was like this for HOURS!!! About as boring as you could find
Then I pulled into Pecos TX. Home of the famous Judge Roy Bean... For my students, the actual place is Langtree TX but they re-created his famous saloon. And a good looking museum
Here are a few great shots of this quaint place
A great RIDE!!
Look familier?
Snake, This one is for you to match, or whatever game you play....
How do you like the inscription??? I want that on my tombstone . . .
The shops across the street . . .
Then to trip really begins. I pull out of there about 7:30 Vegas time, not realizing it's 9:30 Texas time. . . I have in my mind ABILENE still about 5 hours away. Now my brother Snake is giving me every reason to stop, "most motorcycle accidents happen at night", "too many things laying in the road", "there was a guy who hit dropped cardboard and died", you catch the drift . . . but I love the night drive! Cool, no cars, quiet, nothing to look at anyway, I love it. But I'm glad my bro cares enough to give me advice, whether I want it or not. ;-) Love you Snake!
I pulled into a hotel at 2:15am and called it a day. Tried to get up and write this blog this morning, but the iPad had "no service"??? I goofed with it but thought it was because I was in the middle of nowhere. When I got to Ft Worth today, I had time to call AT&T and got it working. OK, I'm calling it a night.
