Day 8 Dallas Texas

Good Morning Friends,  Well, the best laid plans of mice and men . . . Again, raining cats and dogs as I got up!  Not cool on a motorcycle.

Part of this trip was to let a good friend and Tenere expert, Jaxon (Tabasco on the forum)  look at my bike.  But as I said yesterday, arriving on Sat set those plans back, and then this rain.  At about 10:30, Jaxon finally answered his phone and I packed up the bike to go see him.  His place is about 30 miles in the wrong direction (west vice east) and he was happy to see Luke riding the best bike made . . .

Yes, If you haven't met this fellow, this is what he looks like! As bald as me ;-)  I wanted to give the bike a good "once over" after 1,500 miles down and to get a nail pulled out of the back tire :-(
I was lucky that it just went through the big knobs on the tire and, as far as we can tell, did not pucture tire.  As he inspected the bike, he found a BIG oil leak on the left front of the engine with standing oil in the skid plate :-(

He said this was a problem that has to be fixed before I blow a gasket or something out in the middle of nowhere.  He set me up an appointment at the Yamaha dealership in Irving Tuesday morning (today)
After that good news, He adjusted the suspension for the weight I was carring and the bike was ready to go.  Thank you Jaxon for all the help!!!  You're a good man!!!

Two bald headed guys riding bikes... But he bumped his head somewhere ;-)

Now I had to figure out what to do.  Luckily, I have good friends in the Dallas area and I decided to Hospitality Check Jody (The Rock) and his lovely Barb . . .

They live in Downtown Dallas in an apartment building.  Very simple living . . .  There is something to be said about that!
We immediately went to eat at a place called "Rustic" and it turned out to be a good meal.  One of our waitress' was a college girl with the Texas BIG Hair, pure Texas.  And man did she have that Southern Drawl . . .  Ya'll want some tea???

Like I say, pure Texas . . .:-)  I needed a little something sweet and we walked down the street to the Pink Berry, just like in Vegas, just more selection. . . Had a small almond chockolate with fresh strawaberries :-) And I was in heaven . . .

On the walk home passed an outside dog park that they have taken to the next level with an  outdoor snackbar you can order lunch or dinner.  Downtown Dallas . . .?

That's there Apartment building in the background.

Walking to the dog park and pinkberry

The dog park

Mutts . . .  Go figure . . .  They even have a cute trolley that goes around the downtown area.  It was too hot to take a ride, but in cooler weather it would be fun. . .

We went back to Rock's apt and settled in for a long night of talking and TV and sharing pictures and stories with some great people!!!  And of course, Rock was in fine form showing me, the best "Navagtor in the World", how to best get around, and it was appreciated.  He picked the same route the GPS told us.  Here we are studing the maps

Crazy old men, using modern stuff, with our glasses on . . .  Rock, my friend, we are growing old. . . :-( but we are doing it gracefully and with a bang!!!

It's a cute apartment, that was my bed on the right and man was it comfy!!!  I had to walk across thier bed to get to the bathroom, and they almost let me snuggle in with them, but Rock said, "hey, none of that!!!", although I really think Barb . . . well, we wont go there ;-)))

They took me out on their balcony and the view of downtown Dallas was great!  Some building had a ball that had lights making designs was cool:

A beautiful night.  They were across the street from a hospital and some of the windows were open.  I have a ZOOM on my camera that is REAL good and I zoomed into bed with a couple of the bed-ridden people . . . ;-)

He was eating peanuts and drinking a soda, I felt like we were eating with them ;-)  It's a good zoom . .

Barb abd Rock were great hosts!!! And I thank them for taking in this wayward traveler with a broke bike . . .  I slept well and hit the road this morning to the Yamaha dealership in Irving.

Hospitality Check complete. . . OK  3 Wire . . .  That's Navy for as good as you can get!  Love you guys!!!!

More Later today after we figure this oil leak out.

Luke OUT!!!!

  1. checking to see if I've figured out how to comment.
Bikes are like F-4 hydraulic systems. If oil's not leaking, there probably isn't any in it. Tom
