Day 9 - Jackson Miss 1945 Miles Traveled

Hello All My Friends,  Jody's wife, Barb, likes to sleep with the temp about 35 degrees.  The A/C ran all night . . .  I'm blaming her for this loss of my voice and raspy throat!

I got up plenty early to get my bike to the Yamaha dealership in  Irving TX, right by DFW airport.I wanted to be there at 8:30 for a 9am opening and be first in line, but started talking and listening to Jody give me directions, one more time (this will be a factor later) that I really had to rush to get there at 9.  But Jaxon had called ahead to a buddy he knows working there (See, I does help to have friends in this world) and they greated this world traveler with open arms, like I bought the bike at their shop.  I was soon to meet a great guy named Art, who would be the tech on my bike.  Like Jaxon, NONE of the staff had ever seen an oil leak on a Super Tenere before, so they all gathered around, Art got right to work, had it on a lift and squirted some special sauce on it to clean the area.

He then started the bike and saw the oil bubbling out of the area where these two bolts are on that bracket.  This bracket holds the skid plate on the bike.  Art simply tightened down these bolts that were only finger tight and BAMMM, it's fixed.  I then had to re-pack the bike and got on my way.

Thank you Art.  You did a great job and the dealership was VERY helpful!!!  My thanks to all of you for helping me on my journey!

The Rock now comes back into play.  I have 2 ways to get to Interstate 20 to Shreveport.  Rock decides to send me way #2 because there are less turns.  He says, "Go through downtown Dallas on I-30 and it runs right into I-20."  He forgot to mention, (or I forgot to hear ;-) the smallest of detail about some Route 80 that I needed to turn on.  AFTER about 1.5 hours, and ignoring the GPS TELLING ME TO GO RIGHT!!! because I knew the Rock knows his Texas . . . Something felt so wrong, so I got off and looked at the map!  I was less than an hour out of Texarcana, which is equidistant (almost) to Shreveport as it is from Dallas :-(  I had rode the left leg of an equilateral triangle - almost!  I figured this out at Mt Pleasant Tx and had to go another 1.5 hours over little Texas roads, in the rain, through towns like Dangerfield and Jefferson.  I was supposed to get to Michael and Claire's Dad's house about 4, but it turned out to be closer to 6-6:30.  (The nice thing about blogging is that the Rock can't argue or defend  any of this and claim innocence, with Barb's constant support, for HIS story . . . ;-)  But we all know how accurate I am in reporting on MY blog!

Finally out of this big a** state!  ;-)

I arrived at Chris and Christy Holden's house a little flustered at the lateness, but was welcomed with open arms.  A beautiful house, again on a big plot of land!

This place is also beautiful with a big backyard pool.  Here are the shots:

Down the road from their house.  A very beautiful area.

Chris took me to see Christy at one of her many dance studios, but she was at different studio, quite a bit futher away, so we went to eat.  He took me to a gas station . . . that had been converted to Cajun eatery called MP's.  I guess after the hurricane in New Orkene, the owner packed up his goods and moved to Shreveport.  We had shrimp and gumbo and Chris had a Po'Boy of somekind.

Great food and Chris picked up the Tab!  Thanks for dinner Chris!!! -)

It was back to his house to see Christy, for the first time, as she teaches dance during the summer and we sat around their kitched and told stories.  I showed her a few videos of our dance concert at Palo and she said LA schools don't offer dance as an elective and what a great way to expose kids, in big numbers, to the arts!  I agree.

I had to still drive this night, as it was still 10 hours from Ft Walton Beach, so I climbed on the "Steel Horse and ride" away into the night. . . but not before saying good-bye to a great couple and new friends.

Thank you Chris and Christy, for the hospitality and sharing some wonderful kids with our family!
Hre is one of them here:
They had just gotten his graduation photos in and here is the crowd at my house last month

Congrats Michael, the UNLV grad!

I rode on into the night, quite a bit cooler, but BUGS, giving up their life, to share themselves with my windscreen . . . . My mom asked me one time what the last thing a bug sees when he hits your windshield - - - wait for it - - - timing is everything - - - his own a** hole . . . my mom, what can I say!

   A couple of hours later . . .

A welcome site!  I pulled into a Days Inn at Jackson MS about midnight and crashed ZZZZzzzzz.....

And that's Day 9

LUKE Out!
