Day 18 - Everglades - 3 July 2014 - Mileage About 3450

Hi Friends, This was a very busy and long day.  Got up early from Bud and G. Lee Jones lovely house and hit the road about 9 am.

Bud and G. Lee, as always, your hospitality is greatly appreciated.  You're both wonderful friends and it is an honor to know you.  Thank you for sharing your home . . .  Love you guys.

I motored North through a big rain storm to Tampa to pick up an old Desert Storm friend named Cindy.  It's hard to believe that it has been almost 23 years, but that fight was a long time ago.

I stopped at her Aunt's house and we re-packed the bike.  It went pretty quick and away we went for the 4th weekend.  Here are some shots of her and her family:

Bright enought?  That's the way I like it.  This was CIndy's first ride on a big bike in a very long time and she took to it very well.  You have to teach the back seater to just be a sack of patatoes and not put lean into the bike.  She has done this very well and is a natural back there.  Great job, girl!

Notice how the landscape changes as you go futher south. . .

We drove south to Everglade City and got there just in time to take an Air Boat ride to hunt down Aiilgators!  We got to take a mangrove swamp boardwalk tour also and see crazy birds and hold a small gator :

Jasper (with a couple of hicky's on his neck) showed us just how quick this little guy can snap his mouth closed, and I mean FAST!!!!  He ban'ed his snout and let us hold him.

How often do you get to kiss a gator?

Yes, I'm silly!

  And a little hungry . . . ;-)

And did I say it was HOT ? ? ?

This is how big they can get . . .

The the fun began.  We parked in the middle of nowhere and locked our gear up in Dewayne truck.  He was our boat Captain and a great American.  And what a ride he gave us!

Dwayne took us to a bank on the side of the water, broke off a stick, took a piece of french bread and said stay in the boat.  He beat this stick on the ground, and this monster came climbing out of the water on the other side.

We were like RIGHT THERE meeting this guy!  Dwayne out there, us in the boat . . .

Dewayne even knows this guy, but kept his distance!  I have video of him eating the bread that I'll show when I get home.  The jaws on this guy were amazing.  I asked Cindy to go kiss this one, but she said no . . .  :-(  Chicken . . .

This guy was BIG.  Check out the jaws

Dewayne took us to another spot and this guy was just chillin'

Cindy and Dewayne

Dewayne then gave us a great ride and when we got back to the dock, we took a couple of staged shots ;-)

Captain Cindy!

And the crew chief of the boat.  A pretty fun machine and they pay Dewayne to do this . . .

We got back on the road and drove through the heart of the Everglades.  Even saw a dead gator hit while trying to cross the road.  Sad . . .  Wonder what was on the other side?

Beautiful skies!

We pulled into an Indian Casino for the night and a much needed break from the bike. :-)

Had a nice dinner and hit the rack.  CIndy's first day on the bike and she did great!

That's it my friends

LUKE  Out!!!
